We're now on social! Follow for volunteer needs and what's happening at Errol Hassell!
Art Literacy ("Art Lit") is a Beaverton School District program, led by parent and community volunteers. Each year, every student is introduced to six artists and art styles from around the world, then creates their own project inspired by each lesson. It's one of the highlights of the year for kids — and it only happens when volunteers make it possible.
No experience needed. Every lesson is fully scripted, with a slideshow and a step-by-step art project. All materials and training are provided. You don't even have to present — every class has more than one volunteer, so you can simply help students with their art and learn right alongside them.
Art Lit happens six times a year: October, November, January, February, April, and May. Each lesson is about three hours — a one-hour group training on the first Tuesday of that month, then on lesson day about 30 minutes to set up, the one-hour lesson, and about 30 minutes to clean up. You share each class with other volunteers, so it's never all on you.

Every class needs at least two dedicated volunteers, or it doesn't get Art Lit that year. When you sign up, you're the reason a whole class of kids gets to make art.
